Self-respectRespect. Aretha Franklin sang it best: “R-E-S-P-E-C-T, find out what it means to me.” Respect from others is one thing, but far more important is that we respect ourselves. That can be hard to come by in the transgender world, regardless of the particular type of TG involved. So here’s my plea—couched in my usual self-deprecating humor—that each of us should find a way to give ourselves a break and send ourselves a little self-love (not that kind!) now and then. Enjoy! (In an intellectual sort of way…)

I don’t recall writing a caption with exactly this rationale for becoming a woman, so this does break new ground in that respect (no pun intended). But as for salon caps… no shortage of those around here, right? But the ones I’m most reminded of are “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” from this year and “Total Commitment” from 2015.

Self-respect: R-E-S-P-E-C-T
