I was sad to see in the news today that David Bowie has passed away. I won’t try to claim him for the transgender community as one of our own, but some of his on-stage personas in the late Sixties and early Seventies—particularly his Ziggy Stardust days—surely helped remove some of the stigma of being a gender rebel. I wasn’t a fan of glam rock in general (although Bowie was much more than that), but his music did reach me on a deep level as I was growing up, and I’d like to think that he was the sort of person who would have understood who I was and who I was trying to be. Rest in peace, David. Your songs and your way-cool image made my world a better place.
